A Website or Social Media? | Writing Tips

website or social media

To be a website or social media page. . . that is the question.

The world has changed a lot since blogging came out in the 90’s. Facebook wasn’t a thing. Instagram wasn’t a thing. It was just people making websites, perhaps with some interaction between them.

But now we’re decades into the 21st century. Social media plays such a huge role in almost everyone’s life! It has transformed everything we do. . .So, has it transformed your blog? I’ve learned the hard way. Blogging isn’t about just publishing your own website for the world to read. It’s about social interaction! Just like posting a photo on Instagram and having all of my friends react, and me reacting to theirs, blogging is the same now. Only I’m posting a full-length poem instead of a picture!

So loosen up. Relax. Make some friends (within healthy boundaries) and begin to explore the social media aspects of what is now the future of blogging.

    1. Me too. I used to always say things like “nice poem!” Now it’s my goal not to make generic comments like that or about how good the poem is or a technical aspect about it. Instead, I comment about what the poem brings to my mind. People have been a lot more receptive to that! I think it’s more personal. . .

      1. True. Its always good to have that connection and wound a piece of work. Generic comments don’t always sit well with me cause I want to know how Γ  piece I’ve written made them feel or if they can relate.. For me it All goes back to that relation and how they’ve go Γ  about it.. It goes beyond the poems once those comments starts coming in. And I’m seeing alot of that now.if I have time to reply to comments or make comments my instagram page and on others I should do the same here.

      2. True and I think people have come to expect it since the social media world took over. I wouldn’t go on my friends Instagram and just say “Nice pic – I like your use of shading!” I would say something more personal. So I try to be more personable with people on here, especially as I have made some nice friends. . .

      3. Enjoy there isn’t much to it tbh I was making a couple of changes to the category section trying to make it more organised and welcoming. I want to be a platform where I have others writing post on it to kind of guide and lift people’s spirits.. But I’m taking it one step at a time
