Fragrance Poetry Inspired by Navus from Navitus.

If I could, I would love you like you want
But I just need some time to readjust.
If I could, I’d soak my soul in this bath
Where soap and suds can wash away the dust.
You’re a delicate orange and citrus tree
The ylang-ylang vines wrap around you,
Gentle, pink rose bushes bloom from your roots.
I’m just vetiver living in your shade.
Opportunity won’t last forever;
Love can pass by while I try to adjust.
So if my timid mind “loses the day,”
Don’t let my heart know the love that it lost.

“Just” vetiver? Give “yourself” (vetiver) some credit ☺
Does the perfume lose the vetiver note after a while? Hard to imagine that as it’s usually the one that lasts.
LikeLiked by 1 person
hahaha. The Vetiver isn’t the main player but the whole scent performs well, and keep’s its basic structure through most of its life.
It starts off very soapy or shampoo-y, which is the first stanza. The second stanza represents the main note structure that comes through as I personal detect them. The last stanza is a play off of the scent’s inspiration, which they use the “carpe diem” inspiration.
To make this more dramatic though, I did NOT “seize the day” with this one. Vetiver is the most pronounced note that would be considered “masculine” so I chose that note for myself, let my lost lover take all the beautiful fruity floral notes 🙂

Beautifully written and I love how u made the transition between the yellow color of ylang ylang to the pink of roses and itself as the vetiver……I know u wrote it for ur fragrance and ur every pie is a standalone and if I were to unravel it for me it would be u r a strong partner who is accomplished enough to act as support for her partner when her mood changes or an emotional trauma happens.
Beautifully written…..

That is so beautiful how you see that in what I write. I’m so honored *takes a bow.* I’ve really gotten the groove of writing about fragrances. Now I’m learning trying to write about other things has became a challenge again B-)

Take inspiration from ur fragrances but post them as standalone the result would be a poem abt something else…
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes actually that’s one of my rules that any of my poems can stand alone as a poem even if I don’t say it’s about a fragrance. Do you think I succeed?

haha I know I have only learned about them from fragrances. I think they are big in China but grow a lot in India and SE Asia as well. I’m sure you have smelled it at least one in a perfume!

Yes I did. I think Navus is a new brand not sure but one of my friend ordered this online for her partner. I do love perfumes so it was really good to know about this brand as well.

In answer to your question of whether your poem can stand alone without reference to a fragrance – yes. A resounding YES.
Love the last stanza. You’ve captured the feeling of a yearning left unfulfilled. Simply beautiful.

Yes. You can always order a sample if you’re interested. I ordered mine at osswaldnyc.com.
Not sure I will buy a full bottle, though. If you see my Instagram, you’ll see i have a good collection now and dark and strong “Oriental” fragrances, which are my favorites. B-)

Their tea line is also great but not as well known
LikeLike
What do you think is the reason for that?
LikeLiked by 1 person
I’m not sure. They have a lot of amazing fragrances in their private line that aren’t really marketed either. Maybe they like to keep them semi exclusive?
LikeLiked by 1 person
I think to avoid the same that happened with India, or even when British people say the habit of drink tea was theirs when it was a Portuguese thing. lol

Going back to Bulgari, I love history, by the way. I think their most expensive scents are just released for some kind of niche.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes you can only find them in their stores or Bloomingdales. It’s also possible they make some sort of deal with Bloomingdales to make them Bloomingdales “Exclusives”

No I haven’t smelled them in real life but I am jealous if you have 😎 also a lot of people don’t know what ylang-ylang is so I am happy to hear you do!

Yeah … but most of them are unaware of what the thing is actually. Am from Kerala and I think we have this ylang- ylang tree very common here. My aunt’s house has a real big tree in her garden.. and when the wind carries the smell when it blooms❤️❤️❤️❤️. And vetiver is heaven😊😊

Cool I just looked up Karala so that makes sense you have them. It is hot there, too, right? I really wish I could smell and maybe visit that region on day to try the foods and spices. I didn’t know you have vetiver in India though, but makes sense. Usually they say vetiver is from Haiti. You have a whole mecca of things for me to try there 😎

Yes you do have.. it is hot now..but not during the rainy season . We have a high percentage of humidity that will make you sweat a lot .
We have vetiver here.. it is indeed known for the smell.. and ylang ylang too..😊😊
You are most welcome to Kerala ❤️
