Fragrance Poetry inspired by Fig from Aftlier.

I awoke by the fig tree to an unlocked sky,
Like an azure break between tall green firs.
Everything was beautiful and fresh.
An autumn breeze glided across me,
Carrying with it all the sharp scents of the forest.
And you were there, too, my first partner.
You gave me a fig and together we consumed
This small purple fruit, like a heart in our mouths;
Like our own hearts that we so foolishly devoured.
We took its leaves, and covered our nakedness.
And we laid back asleep.
I opened my eyes to a cool night.
As all our nights had been lately.
The garden of our love has long since ceased.
You gave me a fig and together we grazed.
I asked, “Where did you find figs
in this winter of our lives?”
You said, “By faith, my love. . .
By faith, the wild fruit can still grow.”
And under the fig tree, we found our hope.

Me too! Fig Newtons, right?? 😀 When you spray this fragrance on your arm, it smells like you could take a bite of yourself! But once I started writing about it, I did some research on figs. They are often symbolic of faith. Some even suggest it was the forbidden fruit tasted by Adam and Eve. . .
LikeLiked by 1 person
Wow really good to know 😊
LikeLiked by 1 person
Actually this is a take on Adam and Eve (of course with poetic license). I was wondering if anyone would see it, but so far no one’s made the mention.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I noticed, but I didn’t mention it because it jumped out at me so I felt that it perhaps did the same for everyone and so we were in on the same secret.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Haha. Good to know! No one has mentioned it and I know not everyone is familiar with the story. I didn’t want it to be too obvious because that takes all the fun out of it 😉
LikeLiked by 1 person
It’s a brilliant take on them both and the forbidden fruit and the aftermath. I think it’s one of the reasons why I enjoyed it so much. (Of course no one knows what the actual fruit was.)
LikeLiked by 1 person
No, it was definitely fig since that’s what I wrote about in my poem! Lol, j/k. The fig tree was used in other parts of the Bible as well in reference to faith( I did a little homework before writing this) It would be an interesting story if the same fruit that damned humanity was also used to symbolize humanity’s salvation. At least I took poetry liberties to write that irony into my poem 🙂 Hey, I’m not claiming my poems to be “Bible Truth” 😉
LikeLiked by 1 person
It must have indeed been fig 😌 it is the most poetic one to write about, after all. Yes, there are many parables of the fig tree in the Bible and it invokes a sense of romance as well. That and the Apple tree. You’re on to something there, not gonna lie!
LikeLike
Well the fragrance is called “Fig,” not “Apple,” so my choices were sort of limited on which to write about 😉 😉 😉

Yes sir, it went directly to this poem and our conversation haha. I wondered if your poem is emblazoned on my mind forever and will always be the first tab that pops open in my mind when I hear about Adam and Eve and the fig leaves 🤔 Hmm, that will be interesting to find out.
I’ve been in and out of the blogging world lately but would like to be able to spend more time catching up with everyone’s beautiful creations.
(I listen to a lot of podcasts and read a lot of books, by the way, so I know a little about this or that 😉)

So what’s your favorite podcast?

Hahaha oh my, you are a charmer!
Asking me what my favorite podcast is 😩 that’s like asking me what kind of dessert I most enjoy or what my most favorite book is—it’s absolutely thrilling! I enjoy a large variety of podcasts and it depends entirely on what mood I am in that day. I love everything from fringe topics that go way down the rabbit hole (think Nazi’s escaping to Antarctica via submarines) to Jordan Peterson expounding on his views on cultural norms. I listen to a lot of pastors as well and love to find out and discuss new things I learned about God and theology. Dr. Michael Heiser is fascinating in that respect. Ahh, you are asking a difficult question of me, sir.

‘The unlocked sky’ I don’t know why but I just adored this line. Not going to lie, figs are very tasty. I discovered that perhaps last year. When I was younger, my brother used to tell me that the inside looked like worms and I didn’t eat it anymore. I guess looks don’t matter xD
LikeLiked by 1 person
Haha. I can see what your brother means! I like the taste of figs but I prefer them more when they’re cooked into a jelly into desserts! You must like Fig Newtons, right?
Anyways, thanks for the compliment! That’s one of those lines that just came to me. . . Those are always the best ones 😉

They don’t sell ’em here, but we have a similar looking treat that’s filled with date paste and it’s tasty but I’m not a big fun of very sweet stuff- I like bitter things actually. To think of it, I’ve never had figs in anything other than fruit form. I didn’t taste its jam but I’m not a big fan of jams in general so I don’t know if I’ll like it tbh.
It amazes me what lines readers like the most-they’re usually the simplest.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Sometimes simple lines just pop to me, too. One good line can make me fall in love with a whole poem.
I think that I just get lost in the consistency of fresh figs, between the juices and the seeds and everything going on inside. When it’s baked, it kind of all comes together into one yummy substance! So what’s your favorite bitter treat?
LikeLike
I can relate to that. But I hate it when I don’t like a whole poem but for a line. That line is just watsed.
You got a point there. The consistency is satisfying. Hmmm…The most bitter sweet I’ve ever made would be Nescafe cake-and I’d love to have it with black coffee, no sugar. Wait a minute is there such a thing as fig pie??
LikeLike
Sometimes I trim poems down so I just have the good lines and no fluff 🙂
Yep I like black coffee, too! With something sweet next to it. Like a cookie, or a biscoti if you know of that.
According to google, there is fig pie! But I think you can make pie from just about anything!

Never heard of it but we’ve something called ma’aroud and it’s sweet. It suits the bitter taste of coffee.
I’ve only have had apple pie so what do I know- I’m a picky eater xD

You might be missing out! I like chocolate cream pie, and we even have tasty things like meat pies and tomato pie (which is like a cold pizza with less cheese)

That sounds so good. Okay I might search up a recipe soon xD I’ve heard of ’em before (yet didn’t try them), but, trust me, if you’ve never eaten a middle-eastern dish made in the middle-east then you’re definitely missing out! Ever had a middle-eastern dish at all??

Well I have friends a lot of restaurants here where the people are directly from the middle east! New York is a very diverse place! Also, I’m part Italian so we have a very mediterranean flair to begin with!
I just don’t remember the names of anything I’ve eaten!
LikeLike
but I think I’m quite well acquainted with most foods from around the world, particularly from eating directly at people’s houses – not just Americanized restaurants.

I’ve honestly never eaten a dish out of my culture. I would like to though-burgers, pizza, pasta, cheesecakes and the list goes on. I mean, of course I’ve eaten all of those before but I’d like to taste them from where they originated from. Maybe try different kinds of coffee & pastries. I’ve heard, though, that most foods in western regions lacks spices and what else. Is that true??
If you have friends that cook good food then you must try your best to keep them close xD
LikeLiked by 1 person
haha, I know, and I love to learn from them so I can make my own!
The west is very diverse so it’s hard to determine! Most non-Westerners do not get a proper experience of Western food because, rather than a home-cooked meal, they only get to taste it at places like schools or hospitals, which usually tastes bad to begin with! So someone will tell me they don’t like pizza, until I get them a proper pizza to try!
It’s easy to follow a recipe and make any food. But the problem is that, without tasting the original, you won’t know if it actually tastes right or not!
LikeLike
Our pizza (my family’s) is quite unusual 😂😂 When you have a cook in the house literally no recipe stays the same. Their own flair must be added to the food so technically I haven’t tasted ‘original’ food.
Seeing that I’ve tried *a lot* of baking recipe that didn’t work, I’m not so eager to try some more. Fair point! Little to none of the people here know what fettuccine alfredo actually is since *all* restaurants use some kind of cream instead of cheese and butter. But it’s still tasty so it’s okay 😂
LikeLike
Haha. That adds all the more fun to it! even here, people add things like pineapple to pizza… use chicken wing sauce instead of tomato sauce. That’s what makes pizza so fun!
Something like cheesecake is actually really easy! I can even send you a recipe if you want! But you need cream cheese. I’m not sure that is plentiful in the Middle East. My recipe is a New York style so it’s based around Philadelphia Cream Cheese. I think it Italy it may be made from Ricotta.
But that’s OK, I think alredo sauce uses cream in it as well! I prefer this little recipe – one cup red sauce, one cup heavy cream, half a cup grated cheese like parmesan or romano. Then salt and pepper back to your taste.
LikeLike
I’m actually a fan of plain pizza. Added veggies just don’t appeal to me. Putting wing sauce instead sounds heavenly!
Yeah, we do. I’d love to have the recipe if you don’t mind! (and we’ve ricotta cheese as well)
Red sauce???? That’s an interesting twist that I haven’t seen before. If I ever try it I’ll tell you how it turned out :3
LikeLiked by 1 person
That type of sauce is popular here – mixing red sauce with cream and cheese. They will also add Vodka to it so it’s called a Vodka Sauce, but it’s not necessary.
Just send me some sort of email address and I’m more than happy to send to you the recipe 🙂
I wasn’t sure if chicken wings were as popular in the Middle East (at least the way we look at it). But you can try it with just the dough, a thin layer of bleu cheese if you like, wing sauce, chicken pieces, and then cheese. That’s my favorite!

It’s not that cheap here either.
Its 1.75 dinars here for 8 oz I think (0.70 cents in my currency is 1 dollar for reference)

Let’s see, Wal-Mart brand is currently 1.12 Dinar. But Philadelphia brand (the one I like) is 1.39 Dinar at Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart is usually cheaper so if I went to a more regular grocery store, it’s probably the same price as yours. Wow we are having fun today! Very educational!

I guess it’s because that particular shop gets things that aren’t very common in the country. I’ve only ever found cream cheese in there. The place you live in sounds expensive in comparison! I guess it does depend on average income and things like that. Cultural differences are awesome 😂
LikeLike
I guess it’s all relative. We would have to compare some other basic household products if we really want to know. Cream cheese is probably not the best indicator, lol. But New York is slightly more expensive in general than other states here!
LikeLike
Fair enough. Honestly there are a hundred factors to keep in mind so no comparison would be good enough 😂 The only image I’ve of New York is blinding lights and lots of traffic (especially taxis). Other than what the media displays I know nothing 😂

We have that and the exact opposite! We are a leading producer of apples, yogurt, dairy (pretty much anything from cows), and we have a large park preservation in a mountain range larger that most other parks in the US (maybe even combined). Kind of the best of both worlds. With 0 degree winters and 100 degree summers. We just don’t get bored!
LikeLike
I’ve no idea what we produce to be completely honest 😂😂 We have hot weathers, cold weathers, rainy, breezy, you name it. That’s pretty much the nicest thing about living here in my opinion. We do have mountains (made of phosphorus I think????), a beach (but far away from where I live), a lake (nothing fancy though) and some places of greenery. I’m not much of a sightseer (if that’s what it’s called) but tourists seem to enjoy the variety
LikeLiked by 1 person
You’re really selling the tourism here! 😂😂 We can always google it if you want. What is Jordan’s chief exports? I’m guessing dates 😂
LikeLike
I know right 😂😂 Surprisingly no. Dates can’t thrive here since the temperature isn’t its ideal temperature. I’m guessing medicine (people from all over the middle east come here to study medicine as well) and phosphate. Maybe some fruits and vegetables too?
LikeLike
I didn’t see many produce exports but I think medicine was on there, too! Jordan seems like a pretty level headed country in that they seem to avoid most of the turmoil and, let’s just say “drama” of the Middle East.
LikeLike
Don’t even remind me! The politics and drama is soooo UGH. We’re pretty chill mostly. Seems we’re doing a pretty good job in the coronavirus since we’re on the list with the countries that dealt with it best. Really, I think people forget the middle east isn’t just Iran and Saudi Arabia. It is however true that most countries in the middle east are full of wars.
