Poetry inspired by the perfume Intense Cafe by Montale.

What if, dear, now and here, you stole my heart?
That it happened just as we sit apart?
What-oh-what is mixed in this coffee cup?
A strange elixir that’s altered my brain?
Mom would have said these feelings are insane. . .
But, my oh my, my minds already made.
Sorry. I must have been thinking out loud.
There’s just a “something” in the air that’s sweet.
Before you run away from crazy me,
Wonder if it’s not by chance that we meet.
How long till a rose drops its petals?
Life’s too short to give sudden denials.

Carthusia Terra Mia is the best coffee perfume I’ve smelled recently. Gourmand but not cloying.
