Bereft (18)

I’m running, running,
step by step,
Until I’ve no breath left.
I run from them and
run from you,
I’m running to my death.

When “innocent, I am,”
I cry,
Humility has died.
But truth refuses
to give way
to all my foolish pride.

You are The One
who settles debts and
Violent, You are.
With violence,
you break them all But
break me with the heart.

I’m running, running,
step by step,
Until breathe is bereft.
I run from them but
run to You,
You’re all that I have left.
