The first moment of the day.
Fresh – Happy – Bright.
The window, slightly open, let’s in
the scent of Green, spicy plants
baking in the soft morning sun.
Those same yellow, mellow beams
stretch from their sleep
across my face.
Next to the bed, a jar of white flowers.
Gently wafting my eyes to close again.
Next to me, my lover still lies.
Precious. . .peaceful.
I try not to disturb.

Today, I woke up in paradise.
I try not to think too much –
I don’t want to ruin this moment
with the cares of to come.
Perfect moments don’t last.
And with day comes night.
But I hold on to moments
like this
As long as I can.

You’re a fauna among flowers.
Seldom to settle down.
Both wondrous and wild.
Making men mad and madly in love.

At times, I plunge into your petals.
Soft, satin and smooth.
You’re a Garden of Gardenia.
And I’m inebriated in nectar.

But your dichotomy is dramatic.
You’re not frail and feeble foliage.
Pull your Petals and you will Prick.
Even, arguably, animalic.

To end, your allure is honored.
Your charm, cherished.
Your delicacies are delightful.
And your ferociousness, feared.

Swaying incense imitates pendulums.
The back-and-forth, swaying like memories.
Priceless moments, suddenly expired.
It leaves a lot left to be desired.

Your classic aftershave signature scent.
The varnish on the pews. . cedar ceilings.
Soft, grey skies. Long-lost relatives’ faces.
How stalled thoughts drift to new and old places.

I slide down to the brown kneeling cushion.
Life keeps ticking like the incense swinging.
Familiarity often brings peace.
But I’m saying “Goodbye” down on my knees.

Here, at a funeral, hearts convalesce.
Lost in thought by the scent of “Full Incense.”
