I love smelling clean out of the shower
and tossing on my comfy, blue sweater.
Then, I feel cradled by the familiar.

Combining with my fresh and soapy skin,
I’m consumed by a scent that “takes me back.”
It stays on me like golden amber sap.
Shutting my eyes, aroma takes me there:
To a warm, cozy time with family.

The smell of thick incense all over me
from the church service before our dinner,
blended with all the flavors of the food:
Black pepper. . . oregano cutting through,
The sweet cinnamon that spiced the dessert.
And when we hugged, it rubbed off your cologne.

Yes. . .it’s all there. . . though today I’m alone. . .

I wonder at my reflection:
Am I the man you need me to be?

If I made you a bouquet
To represent all of me that I’d give you,

I’d start with jasmine. . .
. . . As a beginning to love and romance.

And I’d mix it with neroli blossoms. . .
. . .For a love that’s pure and innocent.

I’d stick rosemary branches on each side. . .
. . .To guard our love with fidelity and remembrance.

I’d garnish it all with vetiver. . .
. . .To keep us grounded when emotions fly.

And then I’d sprinkle it with sandalwood. . .
. . .To always know and trust who I am.

I wonder at my reflection:
Am I the man you need me to be?
Am I the man I need me to be?

Epic Man (Amouage) | Fragrance Poetry

I’m a forest of black woods – dense and strong.
Incense rises like a fog from within.
Filled with all sorts of musks and white spices,
as smooth, rounded trees stand firm in the wind.

But there are those who wonder and envy.
They saw me ill – infection oozed like sap.
They came to thieve and take my life from me.
Hypnotized by my deep, exotic scents.

Just how much of my “esse” can they rob?
Every drop of me – more precious than gold.
But don’t underrate my virility
It’s vigor that grew me robust and old.

I’m not the dead forest you expected.
I’m fresh and awoken. . . I am “Epic”. . .
